Phil Delivers the goods…
For the week, Mickelson had 36 one-putt greens and was 2nd in putts per round. On Sunday, he had 8 consecutive one-putts. He uses an Odyssey PM Blade with a White Hot XG insert. By the way, Mickelson won the tournament by 3 strokes despite a Roy McAvoy-esque quadruple bogey 8 on the 14th hole in the first round. Take that away and they might have mercy-ruled this thing after 9 holes on Sunday.

Mickelson played the final 20 holes of the tournament without a bogey. He averaged 301 yards with his FT-9 Tour Authentic Driver, while averaging just 1.617 putts per green in regulation with his Odyssey Putter. His 301 yards off the tee were 12 yards longer than the field average and 5th best.

Also in Phil’s bag: a Big Bertha Diablo 3-wood, a pair of prototype Callaway Hybrids (18° and 21°), X-Prototype Irons, X-Forged Wedges and the Tour ix Golf Ball. He also wears Callaway Tour Authentic Footwear.

If you’re curious, Mickelson told the media he used his 64-degree X-Forged Wedge to make that sublime chip-in on the 16th hole. (Yep, that’s right, I called it “sublime”.) “I had a terrible lie,” he said. “Here I am 15 feet from the hole after hitting a great second shot after a salty little pin in the back right, and I end up with that lie and to make that shot was unbelievable. That ball could have shot off any direction, and it shot off in the hole. That was nice.”

March Newsletter

MARCH NEWS FROM SUN 'N AIR:
March marks the official start of the golf season at Sun ‘N Air. Daylight Savings is next weekend and the daylight hours are getting longer. It is great to see Tiger back in action and we are marking his return with some great savings on Nike merchandise. The covers will be off the greens soon. If all goes well, we hope to have the putting green open by the beginning of April.

As expected, the golf world is not exempt from the economic climate. We heard yesterday that Foot Joy is closing its manufacturing plant in Brockton. We understand that the only shoes that are made in Brockton are Foot Joy Classics; this line will be discontinued when the current inventory is gone. All other Foot Joy styles will not be affected as they are made elsewhere.

On a happier note, we are pleased to announce that Sun ‘n Air Golf Center has been recognized as one of the Top 100 golf practice facilities in the country for the twelfth consecutive year

February Newsletter

Welcome to 2009! As we turn the calendar to February, we at Sun ‘n Air wish you a Happy New Year and thank you for your support. While business is slow in January, it gives a chance to recharge our batteries and work on new ideas for the upcoming season. The first thing is a monthly newsletter. Each month during the season we hope to send an update on what’s happening at Sun ‘n Air - Club Fitting, Pro Shop, Golf Instruction and general news and offer specials. We also will be introducing Monday Event Night. Beginning in April and continuing throughout the season we will be conducting different events on Monday evenings. Things such as In house demo days, member events, free clinics with the Teaching Pros, Club Fitting Nights, and different 3-hole challenges are just some of the events we have planned for 2009. Stay tuned for more details.

Members that took advantage of our early sign up discounts will be contacted when member packets containing bag tags and other information are ready. Dave Tormey, our Superintendent, is enjoying some well deserved time in Hawaii and also up in North Conway this winter. Before he left, we made plans to expand the “short cut” section of the chipping and pitching areas beginning upon his return. This will be an ongoing process throughout the upcoming season and the result will be more shot angles to the green.
